Against the Rules with Michael Lewis

Michael Lewis, who wrote Moneyball and The Big Short, among many other things, has a new podcast about the public’s changing perception of the “fairness” of the referees doling out justice from our various institutions. “I think American life right now has at least one thing in common with basketball—the authority of its referees is under attack,” he says in the first episode.

Lewis is exploring why the legitimacy of our institutions is under attack, and how changing technology and increasing objectivity and transparency might actually be working to exacerbate our sense that the system is rigged, rather than ameliorate it. This is pretty clearly right up this blog’s alley—give it a listen!
